February Give-a-Wow!

41

You’ve probably all seen reference on iMommies to Thrifty Mommy, A Healthy Balance, and Little Fun; Little Learning (three of my favorite blogs), but some of you may not be aware of a common factor shared by all three…they’re ALL authored by my friend, Karen (who also appears regularly on the Cooper Lawrence Show to discuss all things frugal)!

WOW Greatest Hits

Another common factor?  They’re ALL sponsoring the Give-a-Wow!  Karen was gracious enough to let me plan the details for the giveaway, which I have since dubbed the “Give-a-Wow”…we’ll see if I’m allowed such liberties in the future!

On to the details…with a giveaway title like Give-a-Wow, there simply has to be a Wow-factor!  Hmmm…what to do…what to do?  Ahh yes!  Let’s try this…

1.) Visit each of the three blogs listed below:
    a.) Thrifty Mommy
    b.) A Healthy Balance
    c.) Little Fun; Little Learning
2.) Leave a comment to this post that describes an article (from any of the three blogs above) that you really liked, identified with, learned something new from, or…perhaps an article that just made you say … (of course) … “WOW!” :)
3.) Then…WOW!  On February 23rd, one reader’s name, from the comment list below, will be randomly drawn to win a two-disc set of WOW #1 Hits!

  1. Thanks Jennifer! :D I’m looking forward to seeing what people have to say.

  2. Rachel says:

Balance in Diet - Wow is all I can say about the pictures from Haiti. And Wow, we only own 23 of the 100 recommended preschooler books (from Little Fun; Little Learning). Although we have read many of the others at or from the library or grandparents’ houses.

  3. Deb says:

    Thanks for the links Jennifer!

  4. Kirstin says:

From “Little Fun, Little Learning,” I must say the the article “100 Picture Books Everyone Should Know” was wonderful! Many of them I have but there are many I don’t. I am always looking for great mommy approved books for my own children as well as ones that would make great gifts. Thanks and Kudos to all of you…all of these blogs are wonderful!!!!!

  5. Fran says:

I love the article “Frugal ways to save less” Great tips, very helpful! love these blogs, thanks for sharing.

  6. Suzanne says:

Thrifty Mommy: Big Lots shopping a good idea. Wish they had an e-subscription (not just a feed).

    Hope I win!

  7. bekah says:

“Thrifty Mommy”, the article about the Grocery Game. I saw it in a magazine, so it was nice to see more tips about using it while I’m trying to decide if I’m going to sign up.

  8. Jennifer says:

I really enjoyed Little Fun, Little Learning’s Valentine ideas. I’d never heard of “marble painting” and think it would be really fun for the kids. Next arts and crafts day I’ll be pulling out the marbles and shoe boxes. Thanks for all the great savings, tips and ideas!

  9. qtpies7 says:

I have to say Wow to the great article about scammers. So many people do not know that they shouldn’t give out their information over the phone or email.

  10. Elizabeth Davis says:

Thank you. I would have to say on “A Healthy Balance” the article I enjoyed the most & said “wow” to is the one that she wrote on Haiti: A not so wordless wednesday. It is a very sad story. I couldn’t imagine living in a place like that. Makes me feel how blessed I really am. I will say though, in my opinion, if things here in the states don’t change, we could start being like that. I don’t mean to sound harsh against anyone or any organization, but I think that there are plenty of very deprived people here where we are at now, but the majority of people(celebrities, presidents, etc) worry about the other countries more than what’s happening right here in America. I’m all for helping others out, by all means, that’s why I’m a nurse, but it makes more sence to me to start here & then go abroad helping out others.
I’m sorry for my long rant. This is a good idea!

  11. Camille says:

Over at Thrifty Mommy there were actually two articles that were worth the read for tips and tricks. One, ‘How to Pay Off Your Credit Card Debt Each Month’, gave some wonderful tips to pass on to our children for managing their money. The other one ‘Frugal Ways to Save Money’ also had some wonderful ideas.

    Thanks!

  12. Lisa E says:

The article on Thrifty Mommy about logging your credit card purchases into your check book is so genius. I have never thought about that! We don’t have bad plastic habits but my 18 year old niece does. We just recently bailed her out of debt but I worry she will just do it again if she does not have a fail safe measure. This is PERFECT!!! OMG I just love it.

  13. kathy kozup says:

i just read the thrifty mommy article from kellys “how to pay off your credit card debt each month. i never thought of doing it that way. it was great. i enjoy thrifty mommy and being introduce to little fun; little learning. that one was new to me and i got to say “wow” thank you. am always looking for craft ideas for the kids. and i keep so many crafts on hand. kids love it. and keeps them busy and redirects them. thank you again.

  14. Janine Malone says:

The “A Healthy Balance” link was very interesting. I used to work with the WIC program and we regularly used the food pyramid as a guide. The high carbohydrate focus (grains, crackers) obviously didn’t help a lot unless they had whole grains. Fruits and vegetables are healthier carbs.

  15. Tanya says:

Thanks! I love all the VS codes!!

  16. Paige says:

I liked the Valentine’s ideas listed at Thrifty Mommy. Wow. And thanks for your blog and the link to all these blogs. I’m trying to be more thrifty, spend less, save more, and I can use all the ideas and coupons I can get.

  17. Heidi says:

I appreciated her sharing the Big Lots sale flier on the Thrifty Mommy website. We don’t have one near us anymore, but there were some deals worth driving for!
    Fun contest!

  18. Brenda says:

What a great idea! I just read the article for free breast cancer mammograms on thrifty mommy. I will definitely be visiting the site everyday! I’m glad I found it, these screenings are very important!

  19. Little Fun Little Learning: Wow, I only have 2 books off the 100 recommended reading.
I’ll have to find some of these at my local library. =)
And wow, I never knew the 3 blogs were by the same author. I’ve seen them in passing. =)

  20. Candice says:

I just read some of Thrifty Mommy, and the article I liked the best was “Frugal Ways to Spend Less”. A girl after my own heart!

  21. LaDonna Kliewer says:

Thanks for the links. I didn’t know about the reading program at Pizza Hut. We love reading and pizza. What a perfect combination.

  22. Marsha says:

I loved thrifty mommy’s list of romantic movies- I love a good movie but seldom get my act together to make a list of what I’d like to see. She’s done it for me! Now I just gotta print it and tuck it into my binder so I know what to borrow/rent for next time.

  23. Jeanie says:

I guess a trip to the book store is in order to get more of the 100 books…have a few but you can never have to many really good books…..Thanks for the Wow factor….. daughter will be so excited

  24. Carey says:

The article on how to play the grocery game was a great read on Thrifty Mommy. Ive always wondered how it was done, and if it worked for someone or not. I really enjoy this website, thanks for all the info you provide for our benefit. WOW!

  25. Nancy says:

Wow to all three site’s. Whenever I recieve info that is straight forward and useful, I am WOWED. And thank you for imommies.com.

  26. Tara says:

Ok… from Thrifty Mommy I really loved the “How to play the grocery game” post as well as the one that told us about the Breast Cancer Mammogram donations. From A Healthy Balance I loved the photos of her husband’s missions trip to Haiti. From Little Fun, Little Learning I really appreciated the list of 100 recommended books for preschoolers.

All three had really great info in them!

  27. Lura says:

I really liked the list of romantic comedies on Thrifty Mommy. It gave me ideas of things to look for at the library next time I’m there.

  28. Jeanene says:

I checked them all out. On Thrifty Mommy about the scammers. Thanks for the heads up. On Healthy Balance The Homespun Heart by Monica. That made me say, Wow!”. On Little Fun, Little Learning, the The New Parents : Raising Excellent Kids in an Insane World. I loved it! Thanks Jennifer and Karen! You both are great!

  29. Deborah says:

IHOP National Pancake Day…that makes me say, “WOW!” Free Pancakes? Yeah! Wow, indeed! Thanks Thrifty Mom for the info!

Thanks A Healthy Balance for posting about Sweat 365…I’m trying to stick to a daily exercise routine…and faltering this February. Perhaps, this will help! Also, thanks for the link to Six Minute Meals for Six Pack Abs….great stuff!

Little Fun…Little Learning…ah, yes, I remember Book It! I taught 5th/6th grade for 4 years…loved those pizza incentives to get students reading!

  30. Sara says:

Thrify Mom– Your post “How to Reduce Your Winter Heating Bill” helped me sooooooo much and taught me a lot. Thank you so much for posting these helpful tips.

  31. Cindi Hoppes says:

Hi, Wow is the word. Tears came to my eyes. I read about “Haiti” on “the Healthy Balance” website. The pictures spoke a thousand words! Burning their land for charcoal to sell, drinking water from the canals, homes like tin, etc. No one in this world should ever have to live like that! We pay athletes, movie stars, and others millions of dollars. God bless people like Bill Gates and other humanitarians who use their money in positive. The ending was a bit less depressing because of the two sites where the average person can help! Thanks,Cindi

  32. Kallie says:

This is definately WOW - I think it’s great that you are all working on this together!!! I hope I win.

  33. Kati says:

I regularly read Thrifty Mommy but was unaware of her other sites! I went to Little Fun, Little Learning and I know I’ll be busy all day going through it! I did check out the 100 books list and we only have 15!!! But I was reminded of many books that I read growing up and really liked but that we do not currently own! I guess we need to make a book list for my little guy’s birthday! Thanks!

  34. Marcie says:

This week has been my motherly /frugal redemption! It has been a blessing to be looped in with moneysavingmom, imommies and now, A Healthy Balance. A kindred spirit has re-energized!
Thanks for the inspiration to seek out a better life. ( I really liked the Style for less, and the Historical bookmarks–great for a hip homeschool mom)

  35. I love Little Fun, Little Learning. I can’t remember a specific post that I liked best, though.

  36. Christina says:

This was perfect timing! I had planned to do a search on what kinds of foods are freezable when I found the post on Thrifty Mommy, What kinds of Foods Can You Freeze? Thank you, it was so helpful!

  37. Merle says:

Every morning I look forward to see what is on the imommies site.

  38. L.F. says:

Thrifty Mommy: I was WOWed by the simple but great 50+ Ideal to Keep Us From Wasting Food ideas for leftovers. We have leftover grilled and rotisserie chicken every week, but not enough (I thought) to feed everyone again. I’ll try Rachael Ray’s Chicken Taco Soup next week. Thanks!

  39. Barbara Leatham says:

I was reading about what kinds of foods can be frozen on Thrifty Mommies……I never would have thought of mixing up eggs and freezing them in ice cube trays!!
