Thanks to Linda for passing along this follow-up offer from Empire National Nursery! America’s first 24-hour online nursery, Empire quickly ran out of trees to give away for National Arbor Day, but promptly responded with a $5 gift certificate offer to make up for the lack of seedlings.

I sent a free tree to my dad, since we’re living with my inlaws, and I don’t think they’d appreciate a tree on their front porch. So, I’m getting the GC for when we move in April - we’ll have a “Tree Planting” party. . . although, my 16 mo. old will probably change it to a tree hugging party. . . .
Thank you so much for all of those interested and taking the time to request the free gift certificate. We have been sending out as many as possible, and we are trying to get them all sent. Yes… we are still offering the Free $5 Gift Certificate (or gift card), and this will remain on our Arbor Day webpage until 4/30/08 (National Arbor Day is 4/25).
Now this small gesture is good for any of our trees and plants, shipping, or really anything we offer for sale… Many people have already taken advantage of this offer, and why not… $5 is still $5. We even made it easier than previously… instead of a form-request for the gift certifcate, you just print out the page or use the “special codes” when placing the order. There is also a special code to use to “still” get that free tree (free with an order, but the webpage explains more).
We hope this further helps to explain what we have done, and are doing. We did offer a free tree, and the response was overwhelming, and we have run out of those freebies. We are still working on that list to send out the last trees, but we are unable to take new requests (this season anyways).
