Stock The Pantry 02/12/08: Safeway & Co…AGAIN!
Heads up for more Safeway deals over the next couple of weeks! Safeway-owned stores are barely allowing shoppers enough time to organize their freezers from the free Hillshire Farms lunch meat and SaraLee bread products before beginning the next Savings Rally, which starts tomorrow, February 13th, and goes through February 26th. (But we’re not complaining, Safeway
).

The new promotion, which includes over 1,500 participating products, rewards shoppers with Catalinas (see below), in a single transaction of 10-25 participating products.
1.) Purchase 10-14 participating products to receive a $5 Catalina
2.) Purchase 15-24 participating products to receive a $10 Catalina
3.) Purchase 25 participating products to receive a $20 Catalina
(For those of you new to the Catalina term, a Catalina is an automatically generated coupon that prints during a transaction of specific items. The name comes from the Catalina Marketing Corporation – the invisible force behind promotions between product manufacturers and retailers. The Catalinas in this promotion work much like a Safeway gift card – use the $5, $10, or $20 Catalinas to pay for additional items on your next purchase.)

Going back to the promotion, the full list of participating products is attached HERE, but so far I have only the following items to note (let us all know if you find any great deals…and I’ll do the same!):
1.) Rice-A-Roni
Purchase 25 boxes of rice-A-Roni at $1.00 each
Pay $25 out of pocket
Receive $20 Catalina
Purchase 25 more boxes of fruit snacks
Pay $5 out of pocket + $20 Catalina
Receive another $20 Catalina
(Repeat as frequently as you like, or purchase other items with the remaining $20 Catalina.)
With the two transactions above, you would have paid $0.60 per box or $0.20 per box if you count the final $20 Catalina in the savings.
2.) Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks, Fruit by the Foot, etc.
Purchase 25 boxes of fruit snacks at $1.25 each
Pay $31.25 out of pocket
Receive $20 Catalina
Purchase 25 more boxes of fruit snacks
Pay $11.25 out of pocket + $20 Catalina
Receive another $20 Catalina
(Repeat as frequently as you like, or purchase other items with the remaining $20 Catalina.)
With the two transactions above, you would have paid $0.85 per box or $0.45 per box if you count the final $20 Catalina in the savings.
3.) Clorox Bleach
Purchase 25 bottles of Clorox Bleach at $1.50 each
Pay $37.50 out of pocket
Receive $20 Catalina
Purchase 25 more bottles of bleach
Pay $17.50 out of pocket + $20 Catalina
Receive another $20 Catalina
(Repeat as frequently as you like, or purchase other items with the remaining $20 Catalina.)
With the two transactions above, you would have paid $1.10 per bottle, or $0.70 per bottle if you count the final $20 Catalina in your savings.
The Savings Rally is also available for online orders, and can be used with other promotions as well. If your local Safeway-owned store offers delivery, here are a few free delivery codes to make the savings even better:
Code: FREE (Free delivery on orders over $50 – New customers only)
Code: PHILFREE (Free delivery on next 3 orders)
Code: EFREE2 (Free delivery on first order)

That is so awesome! Thanks for the heads up on this one. I’m glad that none of it will go in my freezer–it is full of Hillshire Farms and Jimmy Dean from the last one!
Did you know there are printable coupons for Rice a Roni here? They are for .50 off 1 & you can print two!
Thanks, SB! With coupons, you could actually purchase a variety of 25 participating products to pay less than $20 and receive a $20 Catalina.
I too was going to mention using coupons. I even found some for Clorox at my non-safeway store by looking at the brochures in the pharmacy section. They were a little hard to find, but make sure to look through them all. You never know what you will find in those brochures.
Does Safeway double coupons?
Safeway doubles up to four coupons per week (max. value = $0.50 each) if you take in the double coupon from the Tuesday flier that’s mailed out each week.
http://www.print.coupons.com has a $1 off All laundry det, $0.40 off BC brownies, $0.80 off 3 Hamburger Helpers, $0.65 off Green Giant products and $0.40 off BC Boxed Potatoes – just a few I noticed on the list of goodies at Safeway.
I cannot even tell you how much money you have saved our family in groceries! I am hooked on your site. You make it so easy to understand these promotions.
I linked to your site from my site and I posted all about my savings rally deal tonight. The coupon didn’t print for me, but customer service said I had all of the right products – so they gave me $10.00 cash back! I got 15 Rice a Roni’s, 2 Gatorade’s & 2 Brownie Mixes for $11.81 after coupons & then they gave me the $10.00 cash back. It was like I only spent $1.81 cents.

Is anyone having problems with SAfeway accepting computer printed coupons? Mine in Northern Virginia says that they are no longer able to accept printed ones. Still this is a great deal.
Are the Gordon’s fish part of the deal. I see them in the ad, but not on the list?
Ditto on the thanks to you for this site! I hit Safeway with this Promo and got $117 worth of groceries for $26 so far! I listed it all on my blog. Fun!!
When I went the other day to get the Sara Lee catalina deal, boy was I ever given a hard time. I live in Northern Virginia, so I don’t know if they are just strict or what but when I wanted to purchase additional products with the catalina I had just received from the Sara Lee products, they wouldn’t let me, saying I couldn’t buy the Pepsi products that I wanted to pay for with the catalina. Something about too many transactions. I told them that was ridiculous, that this was a coupon I had just earned, but it got me nowhere. I will be going back today to spend it and try this promotion as well. I just hope I don’t get the same cashier or manager.
Vons weekly flyer has qs on the front page – 1 box of Cheerios for $.99 and 2 packages of Chips Ahoy cookies for $1.50 each. Those 3 items qualified, I found a few more items I needed, then filled the rest of my cart with Snapple Iced Tea at $1.25 each. This deal is fun!
Does anyone know if Vons is participating in this promotion? Vons is owned by Safeway. They’re pretty much the same store, just a different name.
Christine -
Yea!
Vons, and all other stores pictured above, are participating in the Savings Rally.
I’m unclear… can you purchase a variety of the listed items to add up to 25, or does it have to be 25 of the same item?
Christina, you can purchase any variety/combination of the listed items…my examples included 25 of the same item, but that’s certainly not necessary.
I did this deal today, but only a $10 catalina printed out. The manager eventually just wrote me up a “rain check” for the $20 off next time. I guess the register doesn’t always recognize all the items, but keep trying if you have this problem!!
I’m having trouble viewing the list of participating products. Live outside of Vegas, and planning a trip there next week, would love to get in on this at Vons. Is it possible to make that list available in a different format?
I was able to view the list of item names, but there were no package sizes. I’m guessing individual cans of Dr. Pepper don’t count…
I just purchased 25 of the Betty Crocker fruit snacks and only received a $10 coupon. Does anyone know why. The customer service manager told me to come back in the morning to speak with a manager.
Hmmm…You definitely should have received the $20 Catalina…did you double check the receipt to be sure the register picked up all 25?
