Each Texas Driver’s license has a phone number on the back,  just above the bar code on the lower left side: 1-800-525-5555.  (It’s very small print, but it IS there.)   Call this number if you need emergency assistance with your vehicle, and a service truck will be sent to you.  This service is state operated and paid for with your tax dollars (excluding tow truck services).  A state trooper will also be dispatched to your location.

If you don’t live in Texas, check with your state Department of Public Safety (as well as your driver’s license) to find out if they offer the same service.  If they don’t…maybe you can encourage them to do so!
