Here’s a little something for Santa to stick under the tree for the guys this year. Not really knowing the first thing about tools, I just interrupted the Cowboys game to consult my husband and his friend about this 40-piece set…I know, I know, but it’s not like I took them away from the interceptions and bad ref calls to ask what color curtains I should hang in the kitchen!

So here was my question: “What would you think if someone gave you a 40-piece socket set that wasn’t Craftsman or Snap-On?” (I just want you to know that by asking this question, I knowingly subjected myself to yet ANOTHER rendition of my husband retelling his tale of woe about how I used his $50 socket wrench for a hammer and broke it… .)

Anyway, here’s what they had to say: Tools are always good gifts, whether you have a duplicate set of sockets or not. The sockets themselves will likely never break (though they may get lost)…the wrench may break, but never the actual sockets. When I told them the price, they practically jumped from their seats (or maybe there was a good football play going on behind me?) and said, “OH YEAH! Definitely a good deal, regardless of the brand!”

Less-than-pristine quality socket sets are apparently great for all around-the-house projects. They said that if you’re working on a car, you should use the higher-quality brands, but for just about anything else…most sockets/wrenches will do. And if you have any young boys (tweens/teens/young adults), these are great starter sets.
