Don’t forget today is ALSO Administrative Professionals Day, so remember your favorite administrative superhero! (Technically, this is Administrative Professionals Week, so there’s still time!)
As far as the Earth Day freebies, as much as I want to see the new Disney Earth movie, I think I’ll do better actually paying for the tickets. Getting free tickets would require me to take a tour of a brand new KB model home, and I have almost zero willpower in that area!)
Thanks to the McKids Family for keeping us all informed on how to turn last year’s holiday gifts into new gifts this year! Recycle your used electronic items with Costco and receive a Costco cash card in exchange (not all items have a trade-in value).
Thanks to Bekah for passing along this info from the Environmental Defense Fund. The EDF works to “fight global warming, protect endangered species, restore our oceans, clean up toxic pollution and promote tough clean air and water health and safety standards.” In an attempt to improve actions concerning environmental policy, the EDF has drafted a letter to both of the Presidential candidates requesting several actions to be taken during the first 100 days in office. In exchange for signing that letter, the EDF will send you a free gift of your choice: a travel mug, umbrella, or reusable shopping bag (you can also sign the letter without requesting a gift).
I love it when readers send me great information like this! Kathy emailed details for a local-area prom dress giveaway, that awards free prom dresses to students who otherwise couldn’t afford to go. Wondering if there might be similar programs in other areas, I ran a few Google searches, and was delighted to see that there are, in fact, programs like this across the country. (I saw very few programs for men’s formal attire, but there are a few.)

Each program works a bit differently, but I’ll highlight the Dallas-area program, and then post a sampling of similar programs taking place now throughout different cities and states.

The Freecycle Network™ is made up of many individual groups across the globe. It’s a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff free in their own towns. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer and membership is free.

When you want to find a new home for something — whether it’s a chair, clothing, fax machine, piano, or old door — you simply send an e-mail offering it to members of the local Freecycle group. Or, maybe you’re looking to acquire something yourself. Simply respond to a member’s offer, and you may just get the item.
