“It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?”

(…If I bring you flowers…?)

Good Neighbor Day 2009

The FTD 15th annual Good Neighbor holiday will take place Wednesday, September 9th, 2008. Not all stores participate, but there are several FTD locations across the country that plan local events, including the free bouquet giveaways, which usually consist of a dozen flowers per visitor. The idea behind Good Neighbor Day is that you keep one flower for yourself, and give the rest away to your neighbors.

To find a participating location near you, click HERE.

(Don’t be discouraged if your local florist isn’t participating. FTD does not actually provide the flowers, so each florist is required to cover their own costs for the holiday. The participating florists deserve a big thank you…and a few extra paying orders throughout the year!)

The Mainstream Bible Outreach Society is giving away free copies of the Bible’s New Testament to anyone who requests one (within the United States). I recommend the entire book, but the New Testament is better than Neither Testament!

Don’t forget today is ALSO Administrative Professionals Day, so remember your favorite administrative superhero!  (Technically, this is Administrative Professionals Week, so there’s still time!)

Disney Earth

As far as the Earth Day freebies, as much as I want to see the new Disney Earth movie, I think I’ll do better actually paying for the tickets.  Getting free tickets would require me to take a tour of a brand new KB model home, and I have almost zero willpower in that area!)

Kathy Herrera, a mother who has suffered a loss that most of us cannot bear to imagine, has resolved to make a difference in the lives of other families, through the March of Dimes’ March for Babies.

The Herrera Triplets

Sweet Victor, Xavier, and Nicholas Herrera were born in November of 2005, and lived for only a few days.  Determined to prevent premature births and birth defects, Kathy is joining the 2009 March for Babies Fort Worth, Texas event on April 18th.  Her goal is to match the funds she raised at the 2008 event ($270).

The Pampers  “One Pack = One Vaccine” campaign is part of a global initiative with UNICEF to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT), a preventable disease that claims the lives of approximately 128,000 infants and 30,000 mothers in less industrialized nations each year – that’s approximately one death every four minutes.

Tetanus can be contracted during childbirth in developing countries, where women often must give birth at home in unsanitary conditions without access to adequate health care.  The disease rages through newborns within days of their exposure to the tetanus bacteria and is almost always fatal.

You can help eliminate the fatal Tetanus disease by simply purchasing Pampers diapers or wipes, or by redeeming Pampers Gifts to Grow points to purchase a campaign baby body suit.  For every specially marked package of Pampers Diapers and Wipes purchased in the U.S. and Canada, and for each baby bodysuit redeemed at Pampers Gifts to Grow (through 05/01/09), the Pampers brand will donate $.07 to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to help provide one tetanus vaccine to a pregnant woman or a woman of child-bearing age in the less-industrialized world.

To kick off iMommies’ support of this campaign, leave a comment below to win one of four Pampers baby body suits!

Thanks to Coupon Mommy of 2 for the scoop!  Those of you with infants are probably familiar with the Pampers points provided on each package of diapers, but whether or not you’ve saved your points, Coupon Mommy has provided enough generic codes to “purchase” a free onesie, which will also donate $0.07 to UNICEF.

Is it that time of year already?  It seems like just yesterday that I wrote this same post for 2008?  At any rate, mark your calendars!  IHOP is giving away free shortstacks between 7am and 10pm on Tuesday, February 24th, in an effort to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network.  Though a donation is not required to participate in National Pancake Day, this is a great way to give AND receive at the same time!

Thanks for the heads up, Melissa!
