Thanks, Michaela!  If you missed this offer in April, Oprah is giving away Suze Orman’s Will & Trust Kit, free of charge, through October 3rd. With an online coupon code, you can now gain access to “over $2500 worth of estate documents” and step-by-step instructions on how to draft them. I would recommend seeking the guidance of a legal representative, but this is a great way to get started, and it will provide you with a basic idea of the types of information you’ll need to think about as you begin (and you’ll save some consultation fees by having the initial documentation already drafted!).

First of all, if you’re curious about what rare-earth magnets are (as I was!), here’s what Wikipedia has to say:
Rare-earth magnets are strong permanent magnets made from alloys of rare earth elements. Developed in the 1970s and 80s, rare-earth magnets are the strongest type of permanent magnets made, substantially stronger than ferrite or alnico magnets. The magnetic field typically produced by rare-earth magnets can be in excess of 1.4 tesla, whereas ferrite or ceramic magnets typically exhibit fields of 0.5 to 1 tesla.

My translation:
These magnets might even be strong enough to hold the kids’ construction paper projects to the refrigerator!

Well, now that I have your attention with that URGENT line…hmm…so many things I could say! Unfortunately, I get all nervous with public speaking…
And now you’re all watching me stammer…
Wondering what it is I have to say…
I’m turning all shades of red…
(Oh, just spit it out, for crying out loud!)

They say you only have a couple of lines to grab your audience, but keep on reading – it can only get better, right?

Okay, here goes! I don’t think I’ve ever made a “public” plea (and if I have, I’ve either forgotten about it or I’m pretending that it didn’t count). Today is September 26th…which happens to be my birthday, but that’s just a random fact I threw out for recognition, and it has nothing to do with this post.  As I was saying…*Ahem*…Today is September 26th, and our very awesome iMommies friend, and my personal “kindred spirit”, Cheryl Lynn Moore, has made it to the last round of TheNetstar vocal contest. This week is “The Top 5″, and on Monday night (September 28th at 11pm CST), the voting period will end, and the contestant with the most votes will win a one-year recording contract with TheNetStar (among other awesome opportunities).

So here’s the thing – I can’t say that TheNetStar is “in the stars” for Cheryl Lynn, because…well, I’m not God, and only He knows that! But I DO believe that, no matter what, you give your all – you put forth every amount of humanly effort possible, and let God control the outcome. So that’s what I’m doing here (although it may not seem like much effort on my part given all of the rambling!), and that’s what Cheryl Lynn has done throughout this competition…the effort part, not the rambling.  She’s genuinely compassionate, sincerely devoted to God and family, seriously talented (singer AND songwriter)…and I just love her to pieces!  (Yes, I’m biased…but win or lose, WHO SHE IS will be her legacy.  You’ll have to hear her latest song to get that reference!)

Cheryl Lynn Moore

Alrighty, here goes with my first “public plea” (and, Lord, may it by my last, as this is so obviously not my area of talent!): Please go check out the Country/Contemporary Christian vocal competition at TheNetStar.com…and CAST A VOTE!

Contest Status (as of 8pm – 09/25/09)

September 25th, 2009 8pm Voting Status

(See..YOUR vote is NEEDED!)

By the way, I won’t tell you how old I am, but here are 35 helpful tips for surviving the voting weekend (and I’m thankful, for more reasons than one, that it’s only a list of 35):

  1. If you’re feeling bored…listen to a few songs, then cast a vote!
  2. If you can’t remember your weekend plans…make new plans – to vote!
  3. If you’re busy and don’t know which task to tackle first…start with a vote!

  6. If you’re sad and feel like crying…listen to the contestants’ songs, then cast a vote!
  7. If you’re angry and feel like yelling…FINE THEN, JUST VOTE WHILE YOU’RE DOING IT!
  8. If you’re happy and feel like laughing…grab a friend and vote together (just to clarify: that would be TWO votes)!
  9. If you’re feeling stressed…”Calgon, take me away” – but not before you vote!
  10. If you have a headache…take one vote and call me in the morning!
  11. If you find yourself in an emergency…call 911 and ask the dispatcher to vote!

  24. If you’re at church…invite the congregation to your house for lunch afterward (once they arrive, ask them to vote)!

  28. If you’re getting your nails done…vote first to prevent keyboard damage!
  29. If you’re reading a book…here’s the Cliff’s Notes version: Vote!
  30. If you’re fishing…Huh? Tell the fish to vote! (And by the way, Cheryl Lynn even has a song titled “Gone Fishin’“)
  31. If you’re hunting…I’ve heard there’s no game like a vote!
  32. If you’re camping…come back to civilization by 11pm on 09/28/09 and vote!
  33. If you don’t know Cheryl Lynn…click HERE (she’ll tell you how to vote)!
  34. If you do know Cheryl Lynn…you’ve already voted – now go tell all of your friends to vote!
  35. If you want to wish me Happy Birthday (you know I had to throw that in there)…nothing says Happy Birthday like a good ol’ VOTE!

It’s time for the annual Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day again!  The Museum Day event is taking place in museums (and even a few zoos) across the country on Saturday, September 26th, as a celebration of our country’s culture. Though many museums are open to the public year-round without an admission cost, the Smithsonian admission card allows patrons to visit many other museums that would typically charge a fee, provided they visit on 09/26/09.

Smithsonian Museum Day

The Smithsonian admission card allows free admittance for you and a guest. Click HERE to print your Museum Day Admission Card and click HERE to select a museum to visit from the LONG list of participating museums in each state.

I know the kids in this picture are celebrating “someone’s” birthday, but that’s okay if the National Park Service wants to take credit for their happiness. After all, they are allowing the entire country to visit any of the 391 national parks free of charge on Saturday, September 26th!

National Public Lands Day 2009

There are a lot of activities to fit in this weekend’s schedule - free national park admission, free museum admission, free voting

Free advance screening passes to Whip It (multiple theaters and cities) are available through Fox Searchlight.  Most screenings are scheduled for the week of September 28th (next week!).

Whip It

Synopsis:
Drew Barrymore makes her directorial debut with Whip It!, the story of an ex-beauty pageant contestant named Bliss (played by Juno’s Ellen Page) who leaves her crowns behind after joining a roller-derby team. While her mother would prefer that Bliss unlace her skates and step back before the judges, the rebellious teen instead seeks the wisdom of rowdy mentor Malice in Wonderland (Kristen Wiig) in learning the tricks of the circuit track. The Mandate Pictures production was written by roller derby star-turned-screenwriter Shauna Cross.
